History of Carleysbridge House
A farmhouse erected for George Carley Owens (d. 1875) representing an integral component of the mid nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of the environs of Enniscorthy with the architectural value of the composition, one attributable to the namesake George Carley Owens (d. 1867), ‘Architect late of Enniscorthy County Wexford’ (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1868, 413), confirmed by such attributes as the deliberate alignment maximising on scenic vistas overlooking the meandering Urrin River; the compact plan form centred on a restrained doorcase, behind a replacement porch.
A detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse, built 1868, on an L-shaped plan with two-bay (west) or single-bay (east) two-storey side elevations. Creeper- or ivy-covered fine roughcast walls with rusticated rendered quoins to corners. Central door opening into farmhouse with timber panelled door having overlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills.
